Mr. Craig's Art I class is an introductory 1 term class designed to give students an overview of a variety of art techniques and media. Life drawing is central to many of the assignments. It is important to keep in mind you will not be graded on your drawing ability as compared to your peers. You will be graded on the improvement in your personal abilities through practice. Many projects have a pre-instruction and post-instruction element to them. For example, when we begin our unit on drawing faces, students start with a pre-drawing of a face (their own or a classmates) without any instruction from the teacher. After instruction on facial structure, placement of features, and practice, students do a post-drawing portrait. In viewing the pre and post instruction drawings side by side both the teacher and the student can see meaningful individual growth and improvement.
